So what happened to 187combat?

Anyone know the real truth behind 187combats death? I keep hearing about crashes and things like the server wasn't updated much. I dunno just would like answers. I officially took a break from Natural Selection last year back in december and came back officially to Natural Selection mid may of this year. So I have no idea what happened to the server. So I've been really forced and left to play on the BAD servers. Mostly because a lot of people who I know play there and a assload of 187combat players go there now with 187combat dead/empty a lot. Now I am not trying to put down another community which is BAD but there servers are very laggy and they give anyone admin all you goto do is join the clan. To join you just need less then 50 hours? LOL

You can get 50 hours of gameplay in a week or less. Then theres the other servers all very bad and with silly stuff like spore mines. I mean face it there was a reason why 187combat was king and both its servers were full 24/7 last year. But yet still theres also a reason why 187combat died which I am not sure yet. Anyone like to spill the beans? Also what was things like between the admins/mods in 187combat the past year since dec? Was things in turmoil? What happened.

It mainly had to do with Scrow not giving a shit anymore and letting the community die. We couldn't fix, change or update the servers with anything because none of us had full access like he did.

Things took a HUGE downhill turn when the shit between the admin team and Ghaleon took place, and after that... is when the servers began dying down.

As GTK said, Scrow didn't give a shit any more which was finalised when I handed my resignation in (so you can yell/blame me if ya want, I've grown broader shoulders since then).

There were admin scuffles that ensued with no finalised conclusions but ultimately it would have died either way with 0 support or input from the founder.

You've probably noticed the site is completely different due to that being left to die off as well. The domain expired and no attempt was made to renew it, or reclaim it via auction. I won the damn thing with the only bid... not intended but meh..

I think some of the NS1 combat servers are still running, but they are completely out of our control and not physically supported by us financially, technically etc.. They will undoubtedly be turned off whenever funding runs out, or Scrow's old work place realise they're hosting them for free if that is still the situation.

The future of 187combat is still not decided. But the impressions are that it should get back on it's feet supporting more games and with regular maintenance, updates, and voted changes. Although I have purchased the domain I'm not assuming direct control over 187's future as this is one of the many reasons it failed in the first place. Communities should be run by communities. Administrators should be there to facilitate that and take on greater responsibilities other than people moderation, e.g. site maint, game server updates. It's up to the old pk team (whoever wishes to participate) and any of the remaining community members to shape and decide it's future.

Personally I see no point in firing up any NS1 servers as there are old 187 games still active (correct me if I'm wrong). But I think I can safely say that NS2 will be a major priority for every single member. Game server's will be arranged for this (as long as it's not before October).

Ultimately Mario, post your thoughts and take into account that this is virtually a blank slate to work from.

Oh now I see what happened well at least a feeling. I kinda knew it had to have something to do with the higher ups and the admins/pks/mods. Though I don't know anything about ghaleon and the admins having any disputes. I guess it makes sense to start 187combat in NS2. It's a new clear slate to start from. I wonder how much you paid at auction for this website.

I mean man it is kinda disappointing for 187combat to die. It was a big big ass name and server was popular for a good while. I kinda hate how other communities are so cocky now because they are much more active because of all the hordes of 187combat players that migrated to other servers. But I guess that's just a given a lot of people do that when other servers die.

Before I took my little break from Natural Selection and 187combat there weren't too many problems that 187combat had as far as the server,players and rules there. But I am sure a lot of people were kinda tired of the "gay" rules which were kinda hypocritical. But given that 187combat was great and fun. I find a lot of other servers are having to imploy various strategies to gain more activity on their servers. Mostly by putting so many dumb plugins on the servers making the server so unstable and etc. From all the servers I've played on since 187combat, 187combat has been the most stable server and various other things. Which I am sure is what brought it to have so much activity and people to it.

Though me myself is not sure as to how 187combat should go from here. I know a lot of gaming communities die and come and go. But 187combat is different to me, it's really not just about gaming. The 187combat website had so many members and was very active. We had so many great debates and discussions on the forums a lone. In fact I am sure the forums were more active then BAD ever was and had more players. I love the straightforwardness of 187combat. It used simple ideas to make the server fun for instance Icons for playing. Which a lot of servers really could take a note of it's kinda a way of giving back to the players that take the time out to play. That I think had a great hand in making 187combat popular.

Plus 187combat offered it's donaters so much and very interesting things for donating. MOst other servers just offer a reserved slot and a stupid simple icon. Man just about every regular I knew was donating or donated before. Because it added fun benefits to the game.

As far as me I've been stable when it comes to my health since Jan of this year. Though I have been kinda depressed most of this year that's I guess a given when you take in account my circumstances with the illness and the extra bullshit that life hands to you on a platter daily.

I really like this layout for the website the black really is sharp. You know it's funny how 187combat became so popular and active for it being only combat for both servers and having xmenu/buildmenu. 187combat to me followed a simple idea which I think is why it became what it became.

It's been a while, just wanna thank you InFlames for bringing this place back, it is MUCH appreciated by myself and the other REG's I'm sure. Hopefully when NS2 come out we will be able to get things rolling again but for now lets get posting and open threads and discuss things to get the ball rolling around here.

I'm going to hope and assume you are not a Reg here because of your abviously nubbish question so I will shed some light for you on the matter and clear the skies for you a bit, when NS 1 was created it also had no Combat in it as well only having what most know it now as "NS Classic".
Now i dont know all the details but basically the Combat part was developed by the modding community and everything else that was a mod.

Now in the Case of NS 2 history has repeated it's self once again but for different reasons, Combat was not created by the original developer knowing very well how popular it is because they have been developing this game for years and now that they have announced a release period for the game they need to push it out ASAP and because of time constraints they are ONCE AGAIN leaving the Combat and every other mod of the game to be Developed by the NS Commmunity because of the great job that had been done before in NS 1 infact they are or have already released all the tools needs to make the Mods and custom maps for the game.

haven't seen you in while along with avenged and everyone. Because I been out sick. Plus I had no internet, but now I tether with my phone so I can play NS and get internet. nicely said nem I can't wait to see what combat will be like in NS2 because I mean face it combat is very very popular. Yes NS classic is fun and has it's regulars but combat really keeps people coming to the game and keeps new people into the mix. Besides combat really is like a simulator but its so fun. It's like a fps rpg with exp,guns and grenade launchers. :D:D

Hello to everyone! I didn'T expect to see so many peoples active on the forums, I personnally hope everyday I log on to see at least 1 guy on the servers, I was told about the scrow thing. I'm loyal to 187, never had better fun than I did on 187!! And BAD Clan server regs less than european servers for me, no idea why, but seems peoples are loving to play there, rly pisses me off..

Just came back from a game in the bad clan server, and I was so frustrated I almost felt like break my desk, the server is the worst for what concerns lag that I have ever seen, just how I need to shoot 120 ball of ura 1 in a walking fade to actually ending up not killing it, the shots wont register!!!!!!!!!! This is the crappiest server and yet peoples are playing there, I've tried all the damn Rates possible!!! Why in the Hell would they play there instead of 187, which is still up even though you guys have no physical control over it!!! Here's what I'm suggesting, let's try and fill out the server all at once, let's plan a meeting there, where all of u will log on 187combat main server! That way we might attract peoples, and oldies who used to play there. What do you guys think?
